Passport Acceptance Facility

Virginia Tech has been certified through the U.S. State Department as a U.S. passport acceptance facility. We offer the products and services needed for a first-time passport and for renewal passport applications. Services are offered for both the Virginia Tech community and the general public.

The Passport Acceptance Facility is located on the first floor of Squires Student Center.

First-Year Passport Project

The Global Education Office runs this program, which provides a free passport, access to workshops and community-building events, and guidance and support through peer mentorship.

Students must be in their first year of college and be receiving or eligible to receive a Pell Grant to apply for the program. Restricting the program to first-year students allows for adequate time to incorporate study abroad at some point during a student’s academic career.

Immigration services for faculty and staff

Global Strategic Services provides immigration services to faculty and staff (including J-1 scholars and nonstudent interns).

Among the services offered:

  • Prepare and file H-1BTN, E-3, O-1 nonimmigrant petitions for Virginia Tech employees
  • Process visa requests for J-1 Exchange Visitors, including professors, research scholars, short-term scholars, specialists, and interns, and monitor compliance with J-1 program requirements
  • Prepare and file employment-based permanent residency applications (green cards) for eligible employees
  • Advise departments and foreign nationals on appropriate immigration course of action
